We had a really fun time leading a custom public speaking class in San Diego for the San Diego and Imperial Center for Excellence. This custom 2-day Fearless Presentations® class took place June 12–13, 2025, at MiraCosta College in beautiful San Diego, CA.
When I boarded a plane from Dallas, it was already 95 degrees. My co-instructor, Candace Cox, flew in from Las Vegas where it had hit 110 degrees. So when we landed in San Diego and stepped into the perfect 70-degree weather, we both immediately knew… this was going to be a “cool” class. (The participants even decided to keep the classroom door open to enjoy the cool breeze rolling in from the coast.)
The group we trained came from departments across the San Diego and Imperial County regions. Some were leaders, others worked in support roles—but they all shared one goal: to speak with more clarity and confidence.

We started day one by focusing on how to reduce nervousness when speaking in front of a group. Each participant gave short presentations and received helpful coaching. By the end of the day, everyone was already speaking more comfortably.
On day two, we turned our attention to content. Participants learned how to design presentations that are easy to follow and engaging to listen to. Then, toward the end of the day, we gave them ten ways to add impact to the speeches. The class wrapped up with a final presentation from each person using the techniques they’d practiced.
Even though most public speakers feel the pressure, this group kept their cool—literally and figuratively. With the ocean breeze blowing through the room, every presenter gained confidence, energy, and poise.
