Banker’s Toolbox held a Fearless Presentations® class at their office in Austin, Texas, for its sales and IT teams. There were a number of people in the group who came into the class with public speaking fear, while others were quite comfortable presenting, and were looking for tools to make their presentations better.
Most of the people in this class had a background in banking, and some had avoided giving presentations for over 20 years! A large part of public speaking anxiety can be attributed to a lack of tools to work with. There are simple techniques, from breathing exercises to how to make eye contact, that can help tremendously with reducing nervousness. In this particular group, a number of people would say after an exercise that they were shaking, but nobody in the audience could tell! A key element to overcoming public speaking fear is to realize that a presenter’s perception of his/her presentation is often much different than the audience’s perception. This knowledge alone, acquired by going through exercises lead by a trained instructor, can drastically change our approach to presentations, making them more enjoyable and less stressful.
“Thank you! Very informative class!” Christin Clay, Banker’s Toolbox
