Just like all of our presentation skills classes, we started with a few simple ways to reduce nervousness. Even confident speakers will be put in situations from time to time that make them nervous. (In fact even presentations skill class instructors.)
Case in point was the instructor of this class, Colleen Staneart. She has been training to teach these classes for the last couple of years. But this was her first time taking the reins and being the coach for this group. It’s bad enough having your boss watch you present in front of a group. Think of how much worse it is a best-selling author of public speaking books. Oh, and, by the way, your boss is also your dad.
This Public Speaking Class in Phoenix Was Especially Uplifting.
I think one of the things I love so much about these presentation workshops is that the group becomes supporters of each other. And this group was no exception. At the start of the class, Colleen was the anchor for each presenter. She helped each person grow and confidence and have a series of successes.
However, once the group realized that she was my daughter, the tables turned. And they became her biggest supporters as well. By the way, you can have a similar experience. We keep the class sizes so small, that each participant gets real one-on-one coaching from the instructor. And then, as the class goes on, the positive peer pressure from the other participants is very uplifting.
